Pokrovsk Historical Museum
The Pokrovsk Historical Museum is a must-visit destination in the city of Pokrovsk, Donetsk region, boasting a collection of unique exhibits that showcase the local history and cultural heritage of the region. The institution was established in 1967 as a national history and local history museum, and in 1971 it received state status as a department of the Donetsk Regional Museum of Local History. In 1992, it became an independent institution, with a fund collection of over 14,000 exhibits.
As of February 2022, the museum had seven exhibition halls, offering a fascinating journey through the region's history from the Stone Age to the present day. There was also an additional exhibition hall for rotating exhibitions. However, with the onset of full-scale military invasion, the museum had to close its doors to visitors. Since then, the staff has been working tirelessly to preserve the museum's collection. Today, all exhibits have been dismantled and most of them have been safely evacuated.
As a result of the mandatory evacuation in the region, the museum staff has shifted its focus to online cultural activities. Grant activities, training, and project implementation have become some of their key areas of work. Despite the challenging circumstances, the Pokrovsk Historical Museum continues to uphold its commitment to preserving the region's rich cultural heritage.
