Ivankiv Historical and Local History Museum of Maria Primachenko
The Ivankiv Historical and Local History Museum, which opened on 21 February 1981, was a source of pride for the community. The museum featured a diverse collection of exhibits, monuments, and artworks, including a remarkable exhibition of paintings by Maria Prymachenko, a well-know artist born in the region. Maria's paintings were inspired by the Ukrainian countryside and local mythology, and her unique style earned her international acclaim.
Despite suffering from polio at an early age and living with disability, Maria spent the next 60 years of her life as an artist, taking inspiration from her surroundings to create vibrant and distinctive scenes. Her artwork was widely recognized for its imaginative depictions of fantastic beasts, and she was known to have influenced the works of famous artists like Marc Chagall.
On the 25th of February 2022, the museum was destroyed by a fire caused by Russian bombardment. A number of Maria Prymachenko's works were saved by a local man who entered the museum while it was on fire. These precious artworks serve as a testament to the enduring legacy of Maria Prymachenko and her contribution to Ukrainian art. We hope that one day, the museum will be able to be restored and continue to inspire future generations.
