Korolenko State Scientific Library
One of the biggest libraries in Ukraine and Europe. The leading informational and socio-cultural center in the city of Kharkiv, a hub of digital education and a location for intelligent communication of the clients, and also a center of informal education for librarians.
It owns a great information base of national importance: collection of over 7m items stored; thousands of pages of digitized documents. The librarians provide an equal access to the information, knowledge and cultural heritage. The clients may visit 13 reading rooms, participate in interest clubs’ events, attend free courses of computer literacy.
The library has unique history since 1830. The main building of the library complex has been built by design of a famous Ukrainian architect Oleksiy Beketov in 1901. Today, this majestic Neo-Renaissance building is a monument of architecture and urban planning of national importance. The library complex also includes a multi-storey book depository, a readers building and a service building.
Today, the entire library complex has suffered significant damage. Almost all the windows were smashed, the inner doors were broken. Most of the damage has been caused to the main building.
