Luhansk Theatre of Ukrainian Music and Drama in evacuation
In 2014, the Luhansk Regional Academic Ukrainian Music and Drama Theater was moved from the occupied city of Luhansk to the city of Severodonetsk, where it resumed its full-fledged activities. In the next 8 years the theater managed to restore the cast and repertoire, as well the technical equipment, having released over 40 premieres and implemented a number of international projects. The theater launched the national Ukrainian Theater Festival "World Overview" and participated in more than 20 national and international festivals and competitions, regularly touring across Ukraine.
In June 2022, the theater building was destroyed by a targeted tank shots fired by the armed forces of the Russian Federation. The premises of the theater got completely destroyed and burned down.
To date, the theather team is resuming its work in the city of Sumy on the basis of the Sumy National Academic Theater of Drama and Musical Comedy named after M. Shchepkina. But they still believe they can once more bring the Luhansk Regional Academic Ukrainian Music and Drama Theater to life.
